The influence of corporate lobbying has undermined our political system, according to nearly 96% of respondents to our recent survey.
Labour members identified corporate lobbying as having an influence on housing policy (84%), healthcare policy (93%), education policy (72%), transport policy (75%), planning (80%), defence policy (89%), foreign policy (84%) , energy policy (85%) and within local government (85%).
While only 40% had any evidence that Labour representatives have been implicated in corporate lobbying, 80% believed that the party’s reputation had been damaged by it.
Owing to the perceived damage done to the Labour, over 80% believed that party representatives should be instructed not to accept ‘freebies’ from commercial interests.
On Wednesday’s Labour Grassroots, we will be hearing from a Labour Council leader in London who has banned lobbyists and will also be hearing from members across the country about their views on the matter.
